Utility and niche - sources

Not every source in the Sugra API belongs to one of the seven named directions (Finance, Macro, Entity, Net Atlas, News, Earth, Research). This page covers the cross-cutting Utility layer - reference data, geocoding, open-data portal gateways, attention metrics, and the platform's own system endpoints - plus the small Niche endpoint groups that sit outside the product surface but are available on every plan.

Every upstream named below is sovereign, intergovernmental, or academic. This bucket contains no commercial (Tier C) upstreams presented by name.

What belongs here

Reference and geocoding: country facts, place resolution, structured entity metadata.

Open-data portal gateways: one API pattern over city, national, and humanitarian data portals.

Attention metrics: page-view, unique-device, and editor statistics.

Platform utility: public system endpoints of the API itself, no key required.

Niche: entertainment reference endpoints, de-emphasized but fully served.

Platform utility endpoints

The API exposes public system endpoints that require no API key:

GET /health - service status.

GET /sources - the full upstream source catalog as JSON.

Use them for monitoring and discovery before you attach a key.

Niche endpoints

A small Entertainment group (15 endpoints under /api/v1/cinema/*) serves film, studio, box-office, actor, and TV reference data, built from Wikidata and filtered open TV/film reference datasets. It is served like every other endpoint group but is not part of the seven product directions.

Returns the ten portal slugs (nyc, chicago, sf, la, seattle, austin, and the federal portals) with their domains and one-line descriptions.

Endpoint counts are dedicated paths per upstream in the live OpenAPI specification.

Portal gateway responses (Socrata, CKAN, HDX) pass through each portal's own dataset licensing; check the per-dataset license field before redistribution.
